Ireland 2004

A Journey Through Ireland

The tour starts is Dublin, an ancient yet young at heart city were medieval and 17th centry buildings stand comfortably amid all the trappings of the 21st centry. I have given a more complete explaination of what my Grandfather (Opa) and I experienced throughtout this adventure.

The Only Photo of Me Drinking a Beer

This is the only Photo I have of me actually drinking a beer. I find that kind of funny since I had at least one every day because the legal drinking age in Ireland is 18, so I have been of age to drink there for two years. This photo was taken at an excellent sea food resturaunt called "Gallagher's" in Clare.

Day One We arrived at 3:00 on the 25th of June at BWI. The plane left @ 8 pm. This has got to be one of the most uncomfortable planes I have been on. The video screen in the backs of the seats was nice for watching TV, but I couldn't go to sleep in the seats we were in.

Day Two I didn't feel that tired this morning as we arrived at about 7am Dublin time despite the lack of sleep over the night. But after I had breakfast at a local restaurant & headed back to the room I just crashed for about 30 minutes before we went on the bus tour of Dublin. On the tour we saw St. Peter's Church and Trinity College's Library were they had the Book of Kells. Opa snapped a picture of one of the items even though you were not allowed to take photographs in the library. That night we went to the Abbey Tavern where I ate corned beef and cabbage for dinner and watched traditional Irish dancing and singing. It was a grate time.

Day Three Today Opa and I woke up at 6am to get ready for breakfast at 7. Then we left on the bus for the west of Ireland where we went to an old house called Strokestown Park House in County Roscommon. Then we stopped for a few minutes to take a picture of Boyle Cistercian Abbey, on the way to Tubbernault Holy Well where I took some nice photos. Then Opa and I had dinner at the hotel we stayed at then had some drinks before we went to bed.

Day Four Opa and I are waking up at 7am. For Breakfast I had eggs and something they called pudding. It would be like our scrapple but It was a bit spicy and more of a grainy texture. Then we went on this tour for a movie called The Quiet Man. It was kind of fun but lost on me since I never saw the movie. Opa got to relive part of the movie, he had to pull his pants down and ran down O Street like the dying man did in the movie. Then we went to lunch at a place called FairHill House. I had Fish and Chips with/ a Genus. Bobby stopped for us to get some pics of the country side. That's when I lost the lens cap of Opa's camera. Next we went to this little shop were I purchased gifts for mom Michelle, Gina)and Dad. We stayed at a Hotel called, Connemara Coast Hotel. It was right on the coast, I went for a walk looking for town but found only houses. The nearest town was about 10 minutes away by car, so I was not going to walk that far. But on the plus side we got to use the walky talkies and they work.

Day Five Every morning we hare breakfast. Now we arc headed to Galway. I have yet to see a computer that I can use for email. We went to an old farm were they had sheep and I was able to get a lot of really good photos. After the photos, we had dinner at this nice little sea food restaurant. Then Opa and I went to this pub that was near by called Durty Nellys. The atmosphere was so thick yon could cut it with a Knife. The locals had their Kids with them and there was a guy singing at the piano. After about 3 pints of Genes I was singing along as well.

Day Six The first thing we did today was go to another shop that was exactly like all the other shops that we hair been to on this trip. But after that we went on this 100 mile trip around the Iveragh peninsula, I was able to get some very nice pics on the trip. When we stopped in this little town I got an ice cream cone, none of the ice cream had labeled so I just chose by color and it turned out to be whisky flavored. Whisky is not the best flavor for ice cream. I had a grate time in Killarney were we stayed that night. There was a summer festival going on with lots of Irish and American tourists. I went to a night club there by the hotel called The Crypt. I danced there until around 3 a.m.

Day Seven This morning we went to Blarney castle were I Kissed the Blarney stone. It was an amazing place. The small stone stairs leading up to the top seamed to go on forever. It is livery nice Castle. There is something called a rock close were they had a Druid circle a druid care, a witches -rock and wishing stairs. I got a lot of good photos there. Then we went to a Whisky distillery were I was able to taste the difference between Irish, Scottish and American Burbin whisky. I have to say that I like Scottish the best. Then we arrived in Waterford and checked into the hotel there.

Day Eight The day started off with a walking tour of Waterford were we learned about the Viking history of the town. Then we went to Waterford crystal were we watched the crystals being blown and carved into glasses, vases, and many other things. And then we drove back to Dublin and back to the first hotel we stayed at.

Day Nine On day nine we reilized that our tickets were for the next day so we had no place to stay. Luckily our tour guide Bobby was ably to find a room for us that was fairly inexpensive. So once we had the room, we spent the rest of the day walking around the city taking pictures having a grate time.
